The inaugural meeting of the Meads Neighbourhood Panel was held on 10th December 2008. Under HMG Home Office edict, Neighbourhood Panels were created as a collaboration between the police and residents for criminal and civil matters. At the start in Eastbourne, 22 Panels were planned, but finished up being nearer one per ward (there are nine wards).
Sadly, as they rely on volunteers, many ward’s panels are no longer operating, but the Meads Panel still does, supported by the police, council officials and our Borough and County councillors.
The issues discussed today have not changed since 2008, even if the emphasis on each has. These include crime and anti-social behaviour, traffic, speeding and parking and the state of pavements and roads in Meads.
We have four meetings per year (usually March, June, September and December) in the Meads Hall, but deal with issues as they arise in between.
If you would like any further information or to be added to the distribution list, please contact the current Chairman, James Sneath. Email – JSneathMNP@gmail.com and telephone – 077403 77928.
The MCA work very closely with the Meads Neighbourhood Panel (MNP), often signposting members to the panel where certain issues are are better dealt with by them. The MCA also attend MNP meetings both to participate in discussions and to listen to residents concerns.
