Preserving Meads' Unique Character: Our Approach to Planning

The Meads Community Association (MCA) places a high priority on planning issues, recognizing the vital role they play in maintaining the distinctive charm and character of our beloved area. Meads boasts a unique blend of Victorian architecture, natural beauty, and community assets that deserve protection and thoughtful development.

While we acknowledge that all urban areas must evolve to meet changing needs, the MCA firmly believes that any change in Meads should be for the better. Our guiding principle is simple: new developments must complement the existing area and demonstrate quality design that enhances our community's aesthetic and functional value.

Planning Process Overview:

  • Most planning applications are submitted to Eastbourne Borough Council.
  • Minor decisions may be made by the Chairman with guidance from Council Officers.
  • Significant applications are reviewed by the Planning Committee at their monthly meetings.
  • Some applications, particularly those involving roads and footpaths, fall under the jurisdiction of East Sussex County Council.

Public Engagement:

We encourage community involvement in the planning process. Residents can attend Planning Committee meetings and, with prior permission from the Council, speak about applications that concern them. This transparency ensures that local voices are heard in decisions affecting our neighborhood.

The MCA's Role:

Our association diligently monitors planning applications that impact Meads. We serve as a resource for residents, offering advice and guidance on planning matters. If you have concerns about a local planning issue, we're here to help. Our goal is to facilitate informed discussions and represent the community's interests in preserving Meads' unique character while allowing for positive, thoughtful growth.

By working together, we can ensure that Meads continues to be a place we're proud to call home, balancing preservation with progress for generations to come.
